The MABA Expo has been around since 1997 giving area businesses the opportunity to showcase their products and/or services to the residents of the greater Lansing area. The Expo is held in March at the Haslett High School and each year attracts about 5000 visitors from 10:00am to 3:00pm who eagerly attend to see the 150 participating exhibitors.
Here in one place visitors can meet area businesses offering a wide range of products and services in industries which include but are not limited to accounting firms, chiropractors, insurance agencies, pet boarding and grooming, banks, mortgage companies, landscapers, photographers, the library, civic organizations and more. Did we mention free food samples from several local restaurants?
Since its inception, Meijer of Okemos has been the Title Sponsor. Other participating businesses sponsor the Expo each year as well. Because of these generous contributions, the MABA Scholarship Fund was established to provide college or vocational school scholarships to high school seniors in both the Haslett and Okemos school districts. To date, MABA has awarded over $80,000 in scholarships.
Beginning in 2007, the MABA Expo has been the host of the Youth Entrepreneur and Inventors Fair sponsored by the MARC (Meridian Asset Resource Center). Young people in elementary, junior and senior high, as well as, college can participate to showcase their business or business idea to Expo visitors. This has been a great way for local young people to gain valuable public feedback to their entrepreneurial ideas in addition to actually selling their products and services. This is an addition to Expo that we hope will become a long-standing tradition.
